Atlanta, Georgia is a large urban city but there are many camping options for RVs within 40 miles of the city center. There are numerous Atlanta RV parks to stay in that are close to the city center.

Here we present 24 different camping options for staying in an RV in Atlanta, including RV parks, state park campgrounds, Elks Lodges, military campgrounds, and more.

After the RV parks and campgrounds listings, we provide some other ideas for finding camping locations more central to the city, including memberships in the Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome programs. See below for more details.

The places to stay are grouped based on how far they are from downtown Atlanta. Atlanta is a fairly spread out city, so depending on your reason for visiting Atlanta in an RV, you may want to stay closer to family in a suburb or near tourist sites in a particular part of the city.

The locations we’ve identified are listed on the Google Maps below. You can interact with the map to click on a particular location of interest to see its name.

For example, if you want to stay on the north side of Atlanta to visit family in the northern suburbs, you can see the Google map to narrow your search to those locations.

AllStays Website and App to Find Atlanta RV Parks

To find camping locations, we used the AllStays website. It is also available as an app for your phone. This is a great resource for finding campsites and the primary tool we use when on the road. You can read more about using AllStays.

We narrowed the potential campsites to those within a 40 mile radius of the city of Atlanta. Each of the icons on the AllStays map below represents an RV park, campground, or other location where RV’ers can stay overnight.

Another option for finding great places to stay in the Atlanta area (or anywhere across the country) is to join the Harvest Hosts program.

Harvest Hosts is a unique program that provides recreational vehicle (RV) owners the opportunity to stay overnight at wineries, farms, and attractions across the United States, Canada, Alaska, and Baja California. There are currently over 620 host locations in these four areas.

As of March 2019, there are 11 Harvest Hosts locations in northern Georgia. These include farms, breweries, wineries, and more. We stayed at one of the wineries in the north Georgia mountains and had a great time.

The map below shows the locations of the Harvest Hosts near Atlanta. The closest one to downtown Atlanta is 45 miles away in Cartersville. Depending on where you plan to visit in Atlanta, Harvest Hosts may be a great option.

Boondockers Welcome

Another alternative to staying in a traditional RV park or campground in the Atlanta area is to boondock on a fellow RV’ers property. Boondockers Welcome is a website that connects RVers who are looking for free places to camp with private property owners who welcome boondockers to stay overnight on their property.

Membership is only $30 per year for guests to join so they can stay on other members’ property. If you also decide to become a Boondockers Welcome host and allow others to stay at your property, then the cost is only $15 per year.

Within 40 miles of Atlanta, there are 9 Boondockers Welcome hosts as of March 2019. Several are in close-in suburbs to Atlanta and are closer to the city center than any of the other camping options listed in this post. One host is located only about 6 miles from downtown Atlanta and can accommodate RVs up to 25 feet in length.

Most of the Atlanta area Boondockers Welcome hosts can accommodate RVs under 25 feet, but there are a few that can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet in length.
