We camped at Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park and Campground (previously known as Canyonlands RV Resort and Campground) in Moab, Utah in October 2020 in our Airstream.
We would usually boondock in Moab, but snow was in the forecast, so we opted for an RV park with full hookups. This is a review of our stay at Canyonlands RV Resort and Campground (aka Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park).
We had previously stayed at other locations in Moab in our Airstream.
We also did an amazing hike on the Grandstaff Trail to the Morning Glory Arch, which we highly recommend!! This is an area outside of Arches National Park.

Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park & Campground Discounts
The RV park is operated by Sun RV Resorts, which operates many RV parks and campgrounds around the country.
Be sure to check out their website before you reserve your campsites as they often have specials (such as buy 2 nights, get 1 free), depending on the time of year and how busy they are.
Entrance and Check-In at Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park
You enter the RV park right off the main road in downtown Moab.
The campground is located behind a Texaco gas station with a convenience store, which is handy for when you’re camping and need something quickly.
To enter the campground, enter to the right of the Texaco gas station in the driveway. There’s a large Canyonlands billboard sign that you can’t miss.
You’ll drive right up to the check-in office and park there while you check in.
When we visited in October 2020, COVID-19 was a big concern for most people, and Canyonlands RV park gave us little guest packages that included hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and a mask.
Campground and RV Park Options
RV Sites
The RV campsites each have full hookups and a concrete pad to park on.
The spaces are tight, with not much room between them, but there are some pretty trees throughout the campground to give a little privacy.
When we were there in October, the trees were all changing colors which made for a very pretty campground.
Tent Campsites
Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park also has many tent campsites available.
There are some on the main level where the RV site are, but there’s also a lower section with additional campsites for tents.
The upper campsites are divided into little private areas that are big enough for a car and tent. They also have a picnic table at each site.
To get to the lower area for tent campsites, follow the signs to the lower area.
This area is below where the main dumpster is for the campground.
Follow the signs to the tent camping area in the lower level.
To get to the lower tent campsites, you have to drive through a small creek. This should be fine for most passenger cars.
The lower campsites are a little bigger, but they are located near the busy main road of Moab.
These campsites can use the main bathroom facilities, which are a little bit away, so there are also porta potties located down in the lower tent campground area to use.
Cabins at Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park
Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park also has cabins available to rent. These are located at the back of the main RV park area.
Bathrooms at Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park
The main bathrooms are located by the RV campsites. They include full bathroom facilities, with showers, sinks, and flush toilets.
There are also dish washing sinks located outside the bathrooms for tent campers or others to use.
Potable water filling stations are also available throughout the campground.
Additionally, for people who aren’t staying at Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park, they can pay to take a shower in the campground bathroom that is located directly behind the convenience store at the Texaco station.
When we visited in October 2020, the shower cost for each non-guest was $6.
Overflow Parking Area
There’s an overflow parking area on the lower level for people that need extra parking for off-road vehicles, trailers, etc.
Most people park their off-road vehicles right at their RV campsite, but this overflow area is available if needed.
Dog Park at Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park
On the lower level near the overflow parking area, there’s a small fenced area for dogs to run around. It’s not very big, but enough for most dogs to do their business.
Be sure to follow the dog park rules so that everyone can enjoy use of the space.
Picnic Area at Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park
The lower area also has a nice picnic area with a pavilion, picnic tables, fire pits, BBQ grill, and horseshoe games.
It’s a nice little area to stretch your legs or take your dog for a walk in the campground.
This area abuts the back of apartment buildings, but it’s still a nice little shady area in the middle of Moab.
In addition, if you walk behind the pavilion, there’s a short trail that will lead you to the Mill Creek Parkway trail.
The Mill Creek Parkway trail is a multi-use recreational path and trail system designed for bicycles, walkers, rollerblades, or other non-motorized methods of transportation.
It meanders through the town of Moab, so it’s a nice way to get around, especially if you brought a bike with you.
This trail will also lead you to the high school that is directly behind the RV park. It’s also a good area to get out and stretch your legs.
Laundry Facilities
Canyonlands RV park and campground has laundry facilities available for campers.
The laundry area is located at the back of the Texaco station. You enter it directly from the RV park area.
Pool
The RV park also has a private pool area for campers to use. It’s located right at the entrance to the RV park along the main road.
In the hot Moab summers, the pool is a nice amenity to have!
Playground
The campground also has a playground area for the kiddos. It is located toward the back of the campground.
Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park Exit
The exit for the RV park is on the opposite side of the Texaco station. There’s a second driveway that leads you to the main road in Moab.
Be sure to exit on the other side of the Texaco station, rather than in the same way you entered Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown RV Park.
